Teaching with film

In the UK, the use of film for teaching mathematics was promoted by the Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM).

The Swiss educator Jean Nicolet produced a series of stunning videos in the 1950s (one is available on this site). The Egyptian polymath Caleb Gattegno further developed films for the classroom, building on Nicolet’s work. The “Circle” film on this website recreates one of Gattegno’s re-makes of a Nicolet film.

Follow “Films” to access the films themselves. “Ways of working” describes tried and tested classroom methods.
